Hi, I’m Antonella. I’man architecta soundscapera PhDa dreamera post doca lindy hopper currently based in Berlin, working on the Beyond the Noise project. I love exchange, so get in touch!

SERVICES

DESIGN

I design human-scale and sustainable urban design projects to contribute to the creation of environments that promote quality of live, health, and well-being.

SOUNDSCAPE

I’m an expert in developing soundscape projects in order to investigate the world through sounds and narratives. I also design open and participative sound maps.

RESEARCH

My primary line of research focuses on sensorial and immaterial aspects of cities. It is also based on qualitative methods and participative processes.

TEACHING

I have 10 years of experience in teaching at the university level. I love teaching across those fields of my research specialism: Sensory Urbanism and Soundscape Studies.

IPODI-Marie Curie Fellow

As IPODI-Marie Curie Fellow, I am currently working on the Beyond the Noise: Open Source Soundscapes project which focuses on the issue of noise pollution and it aims to apply a qualitative methodology based on the human voice for the analysis, assessment and planning of urban quiet areas at the neighbourhood scale in Berlin.

In 2009 I launched Firenze Sound Map – known as the collective “tender” sound map of Firenze – a freelance project resulting from my doctoral research with the main aim of representing the Florentine soundscapes form an emotional standpoint through public participation.

TOSCANA SOUND MAP

I work as curator and editor of Toscana Sound Map, a digital and interactive sound map of Tuscany, which came into being for Tuscany Region’s participation at EXPO 2015. It was conceived and created in collaboration with Fondazione Sistema Toscana with the aim of representing Tuscany’s identity through sounds and narratives.

I was a member of the team, led by Arch. Luca Zevi and Prof. Rosario Pavia, which curated the exhibition Le Quattro stagioni. Le Architetture del Made in Italy (The Four Seasons. The Made in Italy Architectures) held at the Italian Pavilion for the 13th International Architecture Exhibition.

I undertook  doctoral studies in Urban Design and Territorial Planning at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Firenze and at the City Design and Development Lab, MIT (Cambridge, Boston). My dissertation On the Sonic Image of the City was awarded the 2010 National Institute of Urbanism Award and the 2012 City of Firenze Research Award.
